National Air Resource Advisory Committee (NARAC)

The National Air Resource Advisory Committee advises the AirMAC on major policy and administrative matters.

The AirMAC is structured in five cells for administrative purpose. Five cells are

  1. Air resource policy & programme co-ordination cell
  2. Air quality monitoring cell
  3. Vehicular emission control cell
  4. Research and local implementation cell
  5. Air resources information centre

Partners have been grouped to five working groups that will advise the respective cell.

The Environmental Economics and Global Affairs Division of the Ministry of Environment & Natural Resources lead the air resource policy & programme co-ordination cell and oversee over all supervision of the AirMAC. The CEA lead the air quality-monitoring cell while Ministry of Transport, Highways & Civil Aviation lead the vehicular emission control cell. Since, air pollution problem is severe in the Colombo city area, Colombo Municipality Council was entrusted to lead the air resource research and local implementation cell. The lead agency works close relation with other partners. The lead agency is supported by a working group.

Since all cells are located in the same place, co-ordination and exchange of information and expertise is possible. This will improve the results of all cells and teams.
